Extract Text from a JPG

Technology makes our lives easier in different ways. Sometimes we are faced with the task of having to extract text from an image. It is possible to do it by hand but when there is a lot of text in the image it can become difficult.

Fortunately, there is a technology developed to extract texts from images. This technology is known as OCR, or Optical Character Recognition.

If this is the first time you hear about OCR, here are some programs equipped with this function, which are easy to use and efficient to extract the words from the images.

Google Lens

The first one we will mention is Google. Google has a flagship application for this function.

With Google Lens function of Google Photos on mobile devices you can extract the text from an image or photo and copy it later wherever you need it.

The procedure is simple

  1. Open the photo of the text that we need to copy in the Google Photos application.
  2. Press the button that has the shape of a box with a circle inside (Google Lens) that is on the left side of the trash option. By doing this, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology will go to work. The platform will analyze the image to be able to extract information from it and will highlight the text boxes.
  3. Select the paragraph of your interest.
  4. The text is now on the clipboard, so you can paste it wherever you need it.

LightPDF

LightPDF is an excellent web file program that offers various management tools for your image files.

It has a built-in OCR function that is very easy to use.

The interesting thing is that it supports a wide range of languages, for example, English, French, Italian, Japanese, etc.

Also, this OCR tool can handle formats like JPG, PNG, and PDF.
Steps to follow:

  1. Open the Character Recognition page.
  2. Load the image you need to process either by dragging and dropping or by clicking "Select file".
  3. Then you can go to select one or more languages that your file contains.
  4. Select the output format you want to get. Once all the processes have finished, click "Convert" to start the conversion.
  5. To save the file to your local drive, simply click the download button provided.

i2OCR

The next tool to extract text from an image online is i2OCR.

Despite being an online application, this tool works just as well as other OCR applications.

This program supports formats like JPG, PNG, PGM, TIF, PPM, and PBM.

Steps to follow:

  1. Go to the main page.
  2. Select the language of the text you need to extract.
  3. Select the location of the images. You will have 2 options, upload them from your PC or by a URL.
  4. To start the process, check the checkbox and click "Extract Text."
  5. Once you've done that, you can download the file.
